Where’s The Missing Data?

by Phil on 03-16-2011 09:39 AM - last edited on 03-16-2011 09:39 AM

I mentioned last week that I am writing a blog at Forbes.com, The Objective. Today I have posted the second in the series, and this time the topic is backing up your data.

Data_post.jpgNow for those of you who have been faced with a stolen computer, a hard drive crash or your backup CDs failing (wait, you didn’t know CDs can fail?), you know how important this is. You never think you are really going to need a backup until you do and then you kick yourself for not doing it earlier. But what you might not know, is just one backup method is no longer sufficient.

For those of you who have gotten this far without “needing” a backup, consider yourself lucky and take this opportunity to build an action plan.

Regardless of what camp you are in, the fact is, most people don’t realize that data storage has a shelf life. We dutifully backup our data each month on CDs or DVD's, without realizing that our backup strategy is flawed.

The rest of the story is over at Forbes.com. Please take a look and let me know what you think. And if you have any questions you’d like me to answer in future columns, ask away!
